Well hey there. Let’s babble.
Welcome to the Sexy 6 part of my newsletter where I share with you the six things I want to pash this week starting with…….
1. Rainbow Bookcases
Yes, I know I am a basic bitch and this trend is very old but it doesn’t make me love it any less. Someone at Mamamia decided to rainbow (yes, it’s a verb now according to ……me) our office bookshelf (above, left) and it gives me daily joy every time I see it.
2. This Teeny Spray Bottle
I love putting my foundation on with a sponge. But I learned a while ago that sponges work best when damp. But do I ever have water nearby when I’m putting on makeup? NEVER. Leigh Campbell (who has the brilliant BRILLO BEAUTY skincare line for babies which has a cult following among adults too) suggested I put a little water spray bottle with my makeup and I found this one at Sephora for $6. Does the trick.
3. This Fix For Angry Skin
Somehow, a couple weeks ago, I busted my skin barrier. I haven’t done this for ages. Not since lockdown when I went too hard on the serums. Maybe it’s the cold, maybe it’s the new retinol I tried, who knows. But everything hurt. Even my usual moisturisers. Naturally, I texted Leigh Campbell who has already featured once in this newsletter. Naturally, she told me exactly what to do and I bought these two products and hey presto. Within a day it felt better. Within three or four days it was pretty much sorted. Funnily enough, the brand of the ‘rebound’ serum is TBH, the same Australian ladystartup that got slammed by the vile Andrew Tate after doing a tiktok dance (the same one we did on Outloud). Small world. Small internet.
This explains it better than I just did:
4. This song - if you know, you know
There’s a certain type of grief for someone you loved but never got to meet or got to know properly. Anyone who has experienced lifelong infertility or pregnancy loss or lost a baby will understand. I wrote about it a few years ago. But I was reminded this week when listening to Taylor Swift how perfectly and beautifully this song captures what it feels like. I don’t know what Taylor herself has or hasn’t experienced but this song is a gift to so many women. Because sometimes you just need a really cathartic sob.
5. This Laundry Sorter
Look, don’t say I don’t share fun stuff. Seriously though, doing the washing is the household chore I love most. I have no idea why. And one of the best purchases I’ve made in the last couple of years is a 3-compartment laundry hamper on wheels. Mine is much uglier than this and has the words “LIGHT’ “DARK” “COLOURS” on it because people in my house need as much help as possible working out the difference. But the way this one is tonally colour-coded is much cooler and it’s only $33.
6. Necklace Parties
I’ve got right back into layering my necklaces. The key is to try and vary the length but I also like to vary the style of necklace because I love a clash. Here are a few combos from the last week.
I have a house full of Swifties and yet have never heard that song. I too have my own journey - too many miscarriages and more in a similar era … it was beautiful- thank you for sharing. And it made me dig out your book and read that chapter again - sometimes, even after nearly 20 years later - it’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one feeling that way.
First up, Mia - what a great Babble/Sexy 6 this was (it took me a while to watch/listen/read as I chose to do this while Dancin with the Stars was on 😅.
Funny thing - I thought Mia had had a few too many energy drinks before videoing Babble as she was talking at a rapid rate, but realised I had the video on 1.5x 🙄🤣. I changed back to 1.0x and restarted the video.
I would love to know where you got your “pink sparkly gem” choker necklace from (if possible). Thank you 🌸
Keep up the great Babbling, Mia. It’s wonderful !!! Gave a great week.
