Well it’s quite a time, isn’t it? We won’t be discussing news or politics here because this is the Sexy 6 edition of my Babble newsletter where I share with you the six things I want to pash this week. And news and politics are more bin-fire than sexy and I most certainly don’t want to pash them. So first, let’s babble.
THE SEXY 6
1. A matching tracksuit
I’m making a concerted effort to bring myself more joy by re-injecting colour into my wardrobe. For elevated sweats that make you feel happy to wear them, you can’t go past Hamil & Co. These are velvet and also come in blue and charcoal but she has some great cotton ones too. And Cat Hamil is an Australian ladystartup.
2. A great lip stain
Solid lipsticks can be hard to maintain. My favourite thing to put on my lips is a stain and I’m always looking for good ones. Mecca has done a new range called Lip Lock Balmy Stain and it feels a little dry going on (I don’t really think it’s a balm) but I like the level of colour it gives.
3. These queer women redefining sexy
For so long, the way women are portrayed have conformed to a certain ‘sexy’ standard. Kristen Stewart and Emma Corrin are pushing against those standards and choosing to project a different image of themselves. Yes, they’re both still fashion-thin but in every other way, I find these images wonderfully transgressive.
4. Wearing summer skirts in winter
I told you I was leaning back into colour. This is a very summery skirt from Barney & Jac (a small fashion label based in Orange) and I challenged myself to wear it on a freezing day. I can’t find the skirt online anymore but it also comes in a dress!
And she cuts a wicked blazer. Highly recommend. Fun fact: my undies accidentally matched my skirt: they’re my favourite local undies label, Nala.
5. The perfect way to face-tan
I stopped using tanning cream on my face a few years ago when I switched to drops that I just add to my regular moisturiser. As you can see, I’ve worked my way through this entire bottle and I reckon it’s lasted me maybe a year? I literally use a couple of drops in my moisturiser before bed a couple of times a week or whenever I want to look a little less pale. Lots of brands make these now. I think the anti-age part is a bit spurious although I guess it could refer to the fact that faking a tan is less aging than a real one…….
6. This meme about female friendship
Not sure about these, TBH
In my defence….oh look, I have none. I bought them at the same time as the shoe jewellery and we know how that turned out.
What can I say except that I am a fashion fool. I either think they could be cool or appalling, not sure.
No, I haven’t worn them yet. Because also - is this a thing - my feet seem to have grown by half a size and even though I used to be a size 36 (which these are), that size now feels too snug.
I will have to channel Celine Dion who, in her recent doco, explained that when she’s shoe shopping and the sales assistant asks her size, she replies “It doesn’t matter what size I am, what size have you got and I’ll make it work”
Bless that women and her commitment to a look.
I went up half a size this year too! I put on some boots I was wearing 8 months ago & they are too tight now. Gave them to my daughter & she is stoked to have her first pair of Docs at age 10.
