I also feel like really? We’re putting our life on hold for a man AGAIN? Can we not evolve or, stay with me, become completely unhinged after Big’s untimely death and exclusively entertain men under 35 in our squillion dollar home while refusing to take off our heels. Madness? Perhaps. Watchable? Abso-fuckin-lutley.

Love this. I think Carrie is depressed because she's essentially in a long-term situationship with Aidan, but she will seem selfish if she voices her dissatisfaction because she knows the kids have to come first. I'm hoping her lack of spark is an intentional reflection of this and she has an affair with the bad boy writer downstairs (lol).

Thank God. Finally someone is giving voice to this. I too have been saying similar things to my husband about Carrie. He is the only one who will listen to me drone on about my concerns for Carrie but he certainly does not care. I can relate to Carrie as I feel like I’ve lost my sparkle in mid life. I’m sad though that Carrie is this way (and that I am too).

Thank you Mia for this babble. I feel validated.

I've been obsessed with trying to figure out how SatC could be so good and AJLT can be so bad. I even re-watched the entire SatC series and it was just as exceptional as I'd remembered. It's particularly perplexing considering it's still headed up by Michael Patrick King with some of the same writers and a wardrobe stylist who worked alongside the incomparable Pat Field. (Most of the fashion is just as uninspiring as the story lines.)

Here's one analogy: The trouble is AJLT is like a mum who's trying to convince her teenage kids that she's still cool. But the more she tries - by being overly animated about current pop stars (such as Tyler The Creator), using the latest lingo (like 'skibidi toilet') and being as 'woke' as possible - the less cool she becomes. In fact, she'd actually be cooler if she just embraced her 'old crone' factor, told the kids to 'get off my lawn' and stopped giving a f*** what these little sh!ts thought of her. They'd probably respect her more, which would make her somewhat cool.

SatC was effortlessly cool. AJLT is effortfully uncool. I don't think it's laziness, as some have accused them of being. I think it's the opposite - they're trying too hard to prove that they've 'still got it'.

I've watched / listened to / read so many critiques on And Just Like That, but these two are my favourites:

1. This is a 40-minute YouTube video (also a podcast episode) by an 'elder Millennial' woman who, like me, deeply loved SatC and just can't turn away from AJLT: https://youtu.be/qZvXovx4NG8

2. This is a 2-minute TikTok video from a man who made an interesting point about what can happen in midlife when you're just a little too comfortable financially (which Carrie and most of them are): https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSB5WHR6P

I'll never stop watching and living off the crumbs that occasionally remind me of the original series. But I have to be honest and say that after 2 1/2 seasons, AJLT is still failing miserably at doing for 50-something women what SatC did for 30-something women.

And I think Carrie misses her old apartment.

Carrie has always been self centred, however the way she treated Miranda over the banana, yoghurt, Mexican coke was so petty and awful. I would give my best friend anything of mine!
