I’m Mia Freedman and this is my newsletter, where I absorb the zeitgeist and unpack it for you.

Ta-da

It’s a lot like the office watercooler but you don’t have to go to an office or talk to anyone or drink water which is honestly a relief because I’m basically a camel and quite anti-social.

I am also the co-founder of a women’s media company called Mamamia. We reach about 7 million women every month and have the largest women’s podcast network in the world according to Apple.

I’ve worked in women’s media since I was an embryo. My career began in magazines where I started as work experience at Cleo aged 19 and became Editor-In-Chief of Cosmopolitan at 24. During my magazine years, I wrote and published a ridiculous number of sealed sections but still managed to fall pregnant accidentally several times so clearly I should have paid more attention to the contraception articles.

Since 2006, I’ve worked online, making content for women at Mamamia and running the team of women who make written articles, podcasts, videos, live events, courses and summits.

I’ve written some books including this memoir which has been the inspiration for a fictional streaming show called Strife about a former magazine editor who launches….a women’s website. I’m one of the Executive Producers.

You might know me from the Babble videos I post to Instagram where I chat while putting on my makeup in the morning or from my podcasts, Mamamia Outloud and No Filter.

Mamamia Outloud is Australia’s #1 pop culture and news podcast and I co-host that show every day. No Filter is my weekly interview podcast (it's the #1 interview podcast in Australia but stop bringing it up because honestly, it’s just an honour to be nominated).

What is this newsletter about?

Pop culture, modern life and being a Gen Xer living in a Gen Z world.
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about most everything and this newsletter is where I work through some of them in a way that’s candid and intimate. Social media is no longer the place for that. This is where I share the good stuff.

Sign-up so you I can land straight in your inbox instead of relying on a stupid social algorithm to decide what you’re going to read.

The zeitgeist but make it a newsletter. Pop culture. Thoughts. Feelings. Outfits.
