SEXY 6: the quick-hide-my-undies edition
Welcome to the Sexy 6 edition of my Babble newsletter where I share with you the six things I want to pash this week.
1. These Pink Pants
It’s hard to even find the colour to describe these pants. Pink doesn’t cut it. I bought them as part of a suit from COS last year and they’re cord so that means they’re quite thick and requiring cold weather to wear. And the most vibrant shade I’ve ever seen.
I sort of forgot about them because I’ve had my suits hanging up as suits but I’ve been trying to mess around with colour combos more and so I thought I’d challenge myself to wear them 5 ways. Challenge accepted.
The look I ended up wearing out of the house this week was the leopard print coat (25 years old from Marc Jacobs on ebay) and the graphic tee. Shoes are pointy cream flats from somewhere cheap. I would wear any of these looks; I’m going to try the whole suit this week.
2. This Aluminium-Free Deodorant
For a few years now, in winter and on weekends - basically when I think I can get away with it - I have been using aluminium-free deodorant. I’m not going all Goopy on you but it just seems like a vibe except often it’s expensive or doesn’t work. I find that your body can take a while to get used to it. I used to use this one I absolutely loved called Koi but it was very fragranced and my armpits just rebelled one day and got impossibly itchy and I looked like a monkey, scratching my armpits in meetings. No wonder nobody at work takes me seriously. Anyway, last week I saw that Dove have come out with an aluminium-free version and I’ve been trying it and it’s good. And I found it for $2.69 at Priceline.
3. This Quick Coat Hack
If you own any kind of a coat with a belt, you’ve probably lost the belt or found it flapping around your ankles in the street. Just me? This is just the smartest hack from styled-by-sally who probably has a surname but who knows what it is, not me. She’s a Melbourne stylist who is practical but not boring in her approach.
4. This Iris Apfel Rug
Last week, I showed you the new couch in my office and I forgot to tell you about this rug which I love even more. I found it on the Ruggable website - they do all these collabs with different people and they have an Iris Apfel range which is super fun.
6. This Woman’s Ozempic Story
I now know a fair few people who are taking weight loss injections. In my No Filter interview with Johan Hari about it last month, he told me that around 40% of Americans are considering it. Apart from the red carpet speculation about all the celebrities who are suddenly half their size, what I’m most interested in is reading accounts from people who have tried it. Anecdotally, it seems like some people manage the side effects OK and others really struggle. This story was an interesting read. And if you want to know more, you can listen to Johan Hari who has just written a book about it called The Magic Pill and is also taking it himself….. it was a fascinating conversation.
6. This DIY pap smear
I have Pap News. If there was ever a procedure that needed a rebrand it was the pap smear. SMEAR. I mean, please. Why don’t we just chuck the work MOIST in there too, for fun?
Great news though. It’s now called a Cervical Screening and you can do it yourself. I haven’t had the pleasure yet but Holly spoke about hers on Outloud last week and apparently it’s like a covid test but up your vadge. And remember how good we got at those! Here is some more info about it - consider this your reminder to make an appointment this week to get your health checks: boobs, skin, vadge ….. whatever is due. Also: why do we hide our undies when we have to take our pants off, WHY? It’s the weirdest thing to do when you think about what the doctor is about to see.
why do we hide our undies?! laugh out loud so true - its weird.. x
I’m a big fan for the DIY pap smear. At 59, with things down there drying up like the Sahara, this new workaround was a godsend!
